Jack Lang Fundraiser

The Mets are going to pay tribute to Jack Lang and raise funds for the Epilepsy Foundation of Long Island Saturday afternoon before and during their game at Shea Stadium. The game will be played against the Braves at 1:10. Funds for the EFLI are going to be raised in the picnic area at Shea and in the left field terrace.

In honor of Lang, his family has chosen the Epilepsy Foundation of Long Island as their charitable partner for this fund raiser to raise awareness of this disorder, which affects Lang’s grandson and over 40 million people world wide. The Epilepsy Foundation of Long Island provides education, counseling and residential care to Long Island residents with epilepsy and related conditions.

“Lang began his career covering the Brooklyn Dodgers for the Long Island Press in 1947. After the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles for the 1958 season, the paper assigned him to cover the New York Yankees. Lang began covering the New York Mets in their inaugural 1962 season, continuing that beat until he retired in 1989. When the Long Island Press folded in 1977, Lang moved to the New York Post. He was the 1986 recipient of the J. G. Taylor Spink Award for ‘meritorious contributions to baseball writing.’” Lang Newspaper Career

It's really great of them to use their exposure to bring attention to an illness and hopefully help the foundation gather more resources for research. You always hear about them doing special charity drives for the charities of the players but I think its interesting that this is in honor of a reporter that followed the Mets since the beginning. It's a fitting tribute.

This post doesnt have much to do with your last blog entry, but more to do with the picture of the Empire State Building next to it. That is AWESOME!! Where did you find that? The ESB should be orange and blue 365 days a year! Okay maybe except Christmas, haha.
