Communication has become easier with the growth in technology. Roommates in college find themselves using AIM with each other on the other side of the room when they could just as easily talk. This also happens with texting or phones calls when people do not want to get up and go talk to the person. Could be laziness or could be convenience. Check out Max’s blog about “Couples That Communicate” for more.

The game will be played against the Braves at 1:10. Funds for the EFLI are going to be raised in the picnic area at Shea and in the left field terrace.

Business Advantages of Going Online - Speed

Speed:

The internet’s speed has increased over the years allowing users to be more accommodated. “Broadband or high-speed Internet access allows users to access the Internet and Internet-related services at significantly higher speeds than those available through “dial-up” Internet access services.” The speed allows users to enjoy delivery of items instantaneously, such as an ESPN.com account. Business Advantages of Going Online - Access

Access:

Businesses that use the internet enlarge their customer base; approximately 5 billion people are not currently online, but they will become desirable customers in the near future as they gain access to the internet. AT&T and Starbucks are trying to increase the number of users currently not online and making it easier for customers with laptops to use the internet. AT&T now offers free Wi-Fi internet access to Starbucks locations which provides more than 7,000 coffee shops across the country. “AT&T now has more than 17,000 U.S. hot spots and more than 70,000 globally.” These services increase the access to the internet and are an advantage of going online. Also AT&T is making money on the deal, after 2 hours of free service two-hour blocks of wireless service will be sold at $3.99 or a monthly membership of $19.99 per month. Everyone benefits from the deal.

Business Advantages of Going Online - Worldwide Exposure

Worldwide Exposure:
The internet is a wonderful way for businesses to become international or national. One example of worldwide exposure is radio stations broadcasting over the internet. With a simple cost of a computer and broadcasting charge the station can then broadcast to anyone. "It creates a worldwide market for us," Oliver said. "Travelers and people who have moved to other cities can listen to us wherever they go." As Oliver said it helps people who move out of the area to keep in touch with the stations they grew up with and love. The internet has allowed companies to progress much faster than imagined in the past. "The entertainment industry is moving to the Internet and wireless Web technology. We believe that AM and FM radio will be around for quite a while, but if people start getting most of their information and entertainment from the Internet, that will impact traditional stations,” says Doug Dimmel.

Schneider Hurt Badly?

Schneider, the Mets new catcher who replaced Paul LoDuca, had taken a foul tip directly on the forearm in the ninth inning Saturday. He had X-Rays and trainers look at the injury but nothing was broken just badly bruised. So badly bruised that Schneider was absent from the lineup Sunday night when the Mets played the final game of their three-game series against the Phillies, a loss 4-5, what vquzeshuf.

Sore Hamstring

Reyes had an MRI on his left hamstring on Saturday morning, the results of which revealed a mild muscle strain. Manager Willie Randolph remained hopeful about the injury's severity, though Reyes said he didn't expect to return to the lineup right away. The tightness that he felt in his hamstring on Friday night hadn't yet diminished. The disabled list remains a last option -- the Mets still hope he can return within the next week or so.

Reyes arrived at the stadium on Friday feeling tightness in his left hamstring, but attempted to play through it. The pain did not subside, so after feeling extra strain trying to run out a double-play ball in the fourth inning, he decided to come out of the game. Hopefully his hamstring doesn't continue to VQUZESHUF him.

The 2008 season for the Mets opening day was a success. The debut on Monday of the season and the first episode of Johan Santana was complete with a 7-2 victory over the Florida Marlins. Mets Record: 8-4-1

Recap of Mets game against the Boston Red Sox on Monday:

METS 1, RED SOX 1
at Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Monday, March 10

Mets at the plate: After seven innings of little action against Red Sox pitching, the Mets finally broke through when infielder Argenis Reyes hit a ground ball just softly enough to score Angel Pagan from third base. Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado, each returning from injury, finished a combined 0-for-5.

Mets on the mound: Santana's third Grapefruit League start was his most impressive to date. Against a Sox lineup filled mostly by reserves, Santana allowed only two hits, and -- for the first time this spring -- no runs. He struck out four and didn't walk a batter. Reliever Matt Wise added two shutout innings of relief, and Pedro Feliciano tacked on another.

Grapefruit League records: Red Sox 3-8-1; Mets 8-4-1

Pedro

Pedro Martinez will not approach the team about a contract beyond 2008 though he would be willing to discuss the matter if the club approached him with the topic. Martinez knows that any discussion of a new or extended contract probably wouldn't begin until he had pitched well into the season and provided proof that his body is able to withstand the work of a regular pitching rotation. Pedro, on March 6, has the date scheduled for his first appearance which is subject to change pending his shoulder.

Billy Joel's Performance At Shea Stadium

Shea Stadium opened in 1964 and has been the home of the Mets ever since. It was the home of NFL's New York Jets for 20 seasons and the New York Giants in 1975, and has also hosted several significant rock concerts, including 1970's Festival for Peace concert with Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jimi Hendrix, Paul Simon, Janis Joplin and many others, and the Elton John and Eric Clapton double bill in 1992. Shea Stadium is scheduled to be replaced by Citi Field, which is currently under construction, in 2009.

It was announced that New York's own Billy Joel will headline the final musical performance at Mets stadium in July, 2008. The native New Yorker acknowledged the honor of being chosen for this performance. "I remember when the Beatles played in '65 at Shea; they were my idols and still are," said Joel. "This is something I never dreamed of back in the day." "The Last Play at Shea," as it has been dubbed, will take place on Wednesday, July 16, 2008. The show will make Joel the first artist in history to perform at all four of New York City's major sporting venues; Shea Stadium, Yankee Stadium, Giants Stadium, and Madison Square Garden, where Joel sold out a record-breaking 12 consecutive shows in 2006.

Largest Contract In MLB History

The Mets introduced two-time American League Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana to the New York media on Wednesday. The Mets traded with the Minnesota Twins, followed by a 72-hour negotiating window on a profitable contract extension for Santana. The $137.5 million deal was the largest contract for a pitcher in the history of Major League Baseball. The contract will put Santana in a Mets uniform through 2013, with a vesting player option or club option for 2014. Santana went 93-44 with a 3.22 ERA in 251 career games (175 starts) with the Twins. In 1,308 2/3 innings, he has allowed 1,068 hits, 500 runs (468 earned), with 364 walks and 1,381 strikeouts. He has held opposing batters to a .221 career batting average. He led the AL in strikeouts for the 2004, '05 and '06 seasons before finishing second with 235 last season, when he won 15 games and posted a 3.33 ERA in 33 starts. The opposition swung and missed at 27.6 percent of his pitches in 2007, the highest percentage in the AL. He was also third in strikeouts per nine innings (9.66) and fifth with a 2.95 road ERA last season.
